Nature & Hiking

On January 6 and 7, we experienced a true transformation on the Veluwe. A thick layer of snow turned the familiar forest landscape into a silent, white fairytale setting. We saw how the whimsical branches of the pine trees bent heavily under the snow and how the vast heathlands turned into an endless white plain. It was a rare and magical moment.

We walked through this fresh snow and it was an experience for all our senses. The world sounded muffled, except for the satisfying crunch of our footsteps. The air was crystal clear and fresh, and the silence was almost tangible. It was the perfect time to slow down and experience nature in a completely different way.

We played detective in the fresh snow. The tracks of the inhabitants of the Veluwe could be seen razor-sharp. We saw footprints of red deer, wild boar, and foxes that betrayed their routes, routes which normally remain hidden. With a little luck, we even discovered where a roe deer had been resting.

Tip: After such a fresh winter walk, we found it lovely to come back to our warm holiday home. We turned on the heating or fireplace, made a large mug of hot chocolate (with whipped cream!) and enjoyed the rosy cheeks and the beautiful pictures we had taken.
