On January 6 and 7, the Veluwe underwent a true transformation. A thick layer of snow turned the familiar forest landscape into a silent, white fairytale setting. It is a rare and magical moment when the whimsical branches of the pine trees bend heavily under the snow and the vast heathlands turn into an endless white plain.
Walking through this fresh snow is an experience for all your senses. The world sounds muffled, except for the satisfying crunch of your footsteps. The air is crystal clear and fresh, and the silence is almost tangible. It is the perfect time to slow down and experience nature in a completely different way.
For nature lovers, this is also the moment to play detective. In the fresh snow, the tracks of the inhabitants of the Veluwe can be seen razor-sharp. Footprints of red deer, wild boar, and foxes betray their routes, which normally remain hidden. With a little luck, you can even see where a roe deer has been resting.
Tip: After such a fresh winter walk, nothing beats coming home to a warm holiday home. Turn on the heating or fireplace, make a large mug of hot chocolate (with whipped cream!) and enjoy the rosy cheeks and the beautiful pictures you have taken.
