There is plenty to do with children around Hoenderloo. We stay at holiday home Woeste Hoogte 15 on Holiday Park De Woeste Hoogte and have visited the places below ourselves. Distances are listed per outing.
1. Wildlife in National Park De Hoge Veluwe
Searching together for red deer, wild boar or mouflons was exciting for us. In National Park De Hoge Veluwe, about 4 km from the holiday park, there are wildlife observation points where we saw animals with a bit of luck. Early morning or around sunset often works best.
The park also has the Museonder, an underground nature museum. Children see what lives underground: roots, soil and old bones.
2. Apenheul
At Apenheul in Apeldoorn, monkeys roam freely among visitors. Squirrel monkeys in particular come close (watch your bags). The park is wooded. There are playgrounds and short presentations by keepers.
3. Burgers' Zoo
Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem has large indoor biotopes: Bush (rainforest), Desert and Ocean. For children there is Avonturenland and the indoor Kids Jungle. Much is under cover, so handy in changeable weather.
4. Climbing Forest Veluwe
At Climbing Forest Veluwe in Apeldoorn, children climb among the trees. There are routes at different levels. From age 6 and 1.20 m there is a junior course. Older children can do higher routes (up to about 18 m). Safety via a continuous belay system.
5. Julianatoren
Julianatoren in Apeldoorn targets families with children up to about 10 years old. The park is compact. There are more than 60 attractions, from quiet rides to a roller coaster for older children.
6. Indoors when it rains
In bad weather we used these places:
Spelerij en Uitvinderij in Dieren: children can work with machines in the Uitvinderij (plexiglass, metal, baking bread rolls). Outside is the Spelerij with its own play equipment.
Children's Farm Binky in Hoenderloo: nearby, with goats, rabbits, playgrounds and a covered play area.

Kröller-Müller Museum in National Park De Hoge Veluwe: scavenger hunt with a dice game for children. Outside there is a large sculpture garden.
7. Walking from the holiday home
From Woeste Hoogte 15 you walk straight into the forest. Bring binoculars, collect leaves or build a hut: simple and often enough for an afternoon.
On the holiday park there is animation for children (4 to 12 years) during holidays, a covered swimming pool and play equipment.
Finally
Sun or rain: there is plenty to do around Hoenderloo. Woeste Hoogte 15 is a practical base for family outings on the Veluwe.
